Fantastic Fest: Detective Downs (2013)

FANTASTIC FEST 2013
Screening #16:

Detective Downs IMDb
We got ourselves a charming detective story from Norway.  What's so different with this detective story?  Well, for starters, the detective here has down syndrome.  Nobody takes him seriously because of his condition.  He doesn't care though.  He loves what he does.  Finally, a family hires him only because they know (or they think they know) this detective won't solve the case.  That's exactly what this greedy family wants.  Things get going good after a bit where our detective uses his "method" to find the missing person.  Love his confidence.  In a way, that can be inspiring.  As for the feel of the story, this is a homage to old school detective stories.  It's got classic noir music.  It may be slow a few times but overall, it was enjoyable.  Verdict: worth watching if this ever comes out but not worth adding to the collection.
