Fantastic Fest: Electric Boogaloo:The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films (2014)

Fantastic Fest 2014
Screening #21

The director of Not Quite Hollywood (doc about Australian exploitation flicks) and Machete Maidens Unleashed (doc about Filipino exploitation flicks) is back with this one.  This time he focuses on the U.S. film exploitation company, Cannon Films.  Badass!  I grew up with some of these.  Some of their movies include:  Superman IV, Masters of the Universe, and Over The Top.  They referenced a shit load of movies on here.  Just like the other docs, this made me want to see all of those movies.  Gotta add Death Wish 2 and 3 on my list.  This is a story of a company who didn't care for quality films.  Just any cheap films to make a quick buck.  The owners were mean bastards but it was all for the love of making cheap profiting movies.  Chuck Norris came out of this.  Missing in Action!  They were always hoping that big blockbuster hit.  Just like Not Quite Hollywood and Machete Maidens Unleashed, this is just another source for history on exploitation cinema.  Tits, ass, guns, explosions,  ninja fights,  blood and guts, etc. etc. Give the people what they want.
It was cool watching this on the big screen.  Nothing inventive or fresh but good source to fill your cinephile needs.  Maybe the director will do a documentary on Troma films.
