Hanna (2011)

Pretty solid entertaining flick.
I didn't know what to expect.
At first glance, I thought it was going to be predictable.
But, it sure wasn't. Some of it felt like a musical.
Like that weird gang chasing Hanna,
the main guy kept whistling a tune to a song
that was first heard when we met him at that club.
There were a few bad ass scenes,
like Hanna's big escape from the highly secured facility.
But, I thought I was going to see a lot more towards the end.
I guess I was expecting a big climatic sequence.
But, it finished with a quick bang.

Movie gets a lot of points for certain sequences
and for the music by The Chemical Brothers.
Overall, it delivered fair entertainment.
My #4 favorite film so far this year (out of 8 movies).

Legendary Assassin

The movie last night was supposed to be The Road To Salina
for Weird Wednesday at the Alamo.
I was unable to go to Weird Wednesday due to
being on standby at work for breaking news.
It's just one of those things.
But I will make it up.
There's one more Weird Wednesday show I want to check out this month.
I also applied for a few advanced screenings.
And Cine Las Americas film festival is on the last week of April.
I might check out some of the films there.

This morning I woke up to this Chinese flick:


Legendary Assassin
Some of the fighting scenes here were kinda cheesy
but you can tell they were trying to be serious.
In fact, the whole movie felt like they were
trying too hard. I like the intro
and some of the fighting scenes.
The story was alright.
I love Asian cinema.
I have a weakness for these kind of films.
Any simple Asian film can get me easily.
This film is one of the very few that didn't get me.
I'll give this movie props for one thing,
the food. This made me want to go to a Chinese buffet
and tear down lots of bowls.

If you're in the mood to see this one,
keep in mind that there's thousands of great Asian films
out there to see instead.

Casino Jack

NEW RELEASE TUESDAY


Casino Jack
Best monologue I've seen in a year.
I'm referring to the very beginning where
Jack talks to the mirror after brushing teeth.
Some okay moments.
I think the problem I had with this was
the script. But, crazy political story.
Kevin Spacey does his usual performance.
I like the part where he goes off during the trial.
Some of the characters here were somewhat annoying
(like that one dude who punched a press guy).

Overall, not bad. Keeps you somewhat entertained
and you learn about lobbyists and their games.

Tommy

MUSICAL MONDAY

To expand my knowledge in this genre
and for the sake of trying something different,
every first Monday of every month this year,
I'll be checking out a musical I've never seen before.]


Tommy
I woke up this morning to this crazy musical.
Didn't know anything about it, but,
I've heard the title for years.
I loved it, especially the first half.
I love that there's no dialogue just pure music.
Whenever a song sequence ends and the people are talking,
we don't hear what they're saying but there's still music playing.
It's a ride from beginning to end.
And some few trippy scenes.
One of the highlights is Tina Turner singing
and injecting some "heroin" to our main character.
Lots of great visuals.
Didn't like the climax and ending as much, but,
it still was a decent closure for the whole thing.

If it wasn't for Musical Monday,
I'd probably would have never seen this movie.
This is a must buy for the Musical section.

Troll 2

Troll 2
Dude, this was epic.
Every shot thought out.
Performances, top notch.
"Action pack, Pee Wee, action pack."
By now you know I'm full of s**t.
This was stupid but the point of watching this
it's because of its reputation.
Other than that, no other reason to watch this CRAP.
Best Worst Movie?
Well, maybe not quite for me.
I've seen other worst movies that I actually personally like more.
Example: Munchies and maybe Howard The Duck.

Check out the documentary "Best Worst Movie" first,
and if you're still interested in the movie,
then smoke some good stuff and prepare yourselves
with Troll 2. Trippy bad movie!!
This should of been under Troma Studios.

City Island

City Island
Man awesome dysfunctional family comedy.
All it was missing was the Wes Anderson touch.
But, the story played out good.
Each family member has his or her own secret
and little by little all hell breaks loose only
to get resolved nicely at the end.
Kudos for the writing.
My favorite part: Vince (Andy Garcia) tells
Tony to keep quiet and don't say any of the things they
talked about to Vince's wife, and then, under pressure,
Vince spills out the truth himself. This was near the beginning
and had nothing to do with the bigger secret which is
Vince wanting to be an actor.
He auditions for a Martin Scorsese picture.
Good vibes from this movie.

Clever independent movie worth checking out.

All Good Things

All Good Things
Solid mystery. Kirsten Dunst does
a good performance here.
It's kinda messed up the things her character
had to go through.
Everything was good until the moment she disappears.
After that, the story goes back and forth
and the flow starts getting disorganized.
This is a based on a true story.

This is at most a decent rental.
Not many memorable moments.
Only one stood up for me
The part where Gosling's character was screaming a few times
during a therapy session of some sort.
