A Lonely Place To Die
This was good.
It had me going for most of it.
It's a survival/thriller from the U.K.
It came out in Fantastic Fest last year.
There wasn't enough of the survival part.
It was mostly a thriller.
One thing I didn't like was that the killers were too smart
and fast for what they should be.
All of a sudden, they knew where people were and
how to cross crazy rivers within seconds.
Other than that, I like how this crazy story plays out.
I wish they would had set everything out there in the wild
rather than the nearby village scenes towards the end.
It needed wolves. It needed nature to be a threat
instead of kidnappers/murderers on the loose.
The ending made it up, though.
Good ending.
Never mess with the Serbians.
That's the main message.

For entertaining purposes, this one delivers.
Other Survival/Man Vs. Nature movies I recommend better:
Deliverance, Into the Wild, and The Grey.

I said goddamn!!! Goddamn!!!
This movie rocks.
A lot of cool original surprises.
This is a cross between Taken and Memento, Hong Kong style.
I loved it.
The cool characters such as the three main hitmen.
The unlikeable bad guy is so unlikeable that
you want this revenge story to be badass.
And that's exactly what it is: badass!!
"This jacket belongs to you" Bang!!!!
Loved it.

Must buy for the Asian section.

This was a little disappointing.
The story had a lot of potential for a great ending,
but, the ending was weak and unoriginal.
It felt like a 2001: Space Odyssey ripoff.
This Sci-Fi came out in Fantastic Fest last year.
I remembered I saw a bunch of Astronauts outside
the Alamo promoting the movie.
I thought the first hour of the movie was decent.
We got a guy up in space going crazy after losing contact
with Earth. Everything felt realistic up there including
the space ship. As soon as he decides to leave the ship,
the movie starts getting more interesting.
But, then they mess it up with that nonsense 2001 ripoff ending.
Left me incomplete.

It was okay while it lasted.
People interested in these kinds of movies,
see Kubrick's 2001 and Moon (with Sam Rockwell) instead.

Fatso

Fatso
This is a dark comedy from Norway.
It screened at Fantastic Fest in 2010.
I thought it was decent.
The big problem I had with it has nothing
to do with the movie itself, but with the DVD.
The original Norwegian audio wasn't included.
Only dubbed English and French with no subtitles.
I love watching Foreign Films because of their authentic language
and many other things.
So this one let me down.
I can only imagine that this movie was a lot better
with the original audio track.
But for a dubbed movie, I liked it.
It was cute, charming, and perverted at the same time.
I like the ending to this movie.
Not a typical "boy meets girl and boy gets girl at the end" movie.
It was entertaining.

There were some funny parts that maybe would of been a
lot funnier with the original audio and subtitles.
But, good times.
Hopefully one day, the right version comes out.

Pretty cool and pretty short and simple action movie.
It's got its own little moves.
The whole thing didn't feel original but
for a popcorn movie, not bad.
I wanted more interaction between Jason Statham's character
and the little girl.
I didn't feel the closeness of these two characters
so I didn't buy that part towards the end
where all he cares about is this little girl.
We got a few fighting scenes.
The bad guys were mediocre.
Other than that, this was okay to see.

I wouldn't buy it.

80's Monday: Risky Business

80's MONDAY

[Every first Monday of every month is 80's Monday.
There's a lot of movies that came out
in the 80's that were so popular that I haven't seen.
I'm an 80's kid, so this segment will give me a chance
to catch up on some of those popular typical movies from this period.]


Risky Business
I had no idea what this movie was about.
All I knew that this had the famous Tom Cruise scene dancing
by himself to the "Old Time Rock and Roll" song.
This was pretty good.
We got a young Tom Cruise being a pimp
to a nice young Rebecca De Mornay.
My favorite scene is the party scene and
that one recruiter from Princeton shows up
to interview Joel (Cruise).
During the interview,Joel puts on his shades and
says, "What the F#%k?"
Loved it.
This is typical 80's.
A guy's parents leave out of town.
What should he do?
Well, invite a bunch of hookers and friends over,
and drive daddy's Porsche.
Good deal.

Good movie to see on a slow Monday afternoon.
I might add this to the 80's section one day.

Hara-Kiri: Death of A Samurai 3D

Hara-Kiri: Death of A Samurai 3D
This is Takashi Miike's most mature work yet.
He's come along way.
From Full Metal Yakuza and The Happiness of the Katakuris
(one of my favorites) to 13 Assassins and this one.
I love the story and how it all slowly builds up
for the great message towards the end.
There was no real fighting until the end of the movie.
Most of the movie dealt with the emotions and
drama of this family. Lots of sad moments.
And there was some crazy hardcore moments
during most of the suicide scenes.
I thought the ending to this tragic tale was really good.
Don't want to spoil it but damn good.
Part of me wanted more violent action but I have
to give this kudos for being more mature than expected
(in a good way).
As far as seeing this in 3D, there was no need for that.
There were some beautiful shots that looked great on 3D.
But, everything else, didn't really need it.

Next year I'm planning on a Samurai Night.
Gotta learn more about these types of movies.
This one is a must for samurai fans.
