This blog is to keep track of my movie addiction and posting short comments to each movie I see for the first time.

Cria Cuervos
Cria Cuervos
Decent film from Spain.
You have to be in the mood for a slow drama.
But there's moments here that delivers good stuff
(at least to me).
First off, I'm a fan of movies that use music
to create a scene.
So our main character (the little girl) plays
a song from her record player about 30 minutes into the
movie. That whole sequence did it for me.
I love that spanish song.
I never heard of it but I heard it's very popular.
I'm glad the song came out again throughout the
movie and ending.
A great movie about life and death and how
children view death in a way.
I don't know if I would buy this in the future but
I'm definitely going to buy and download the main song
and put it in my I-pod.
Cowboys and Aliens (2011)
Cowboys and Aliens
Awesome entertaining flick.
Basically, if you love westerns,
this can't go wrong.
Daniel Craig is badass here.
Harrison Ford was alright.
One of my favorite scenes is the near the beginning
where Paul Dano's character interacts with Craig's character.
Some of the plot was predictable
but I still just went in for the fun of it all.
Sam Rockwell's character learning to shoot
has a good payoff.
Decent alien stuff.
Don't expect to see this big alien movie.
Expect to see a badass western with aliens.
I had more fun with this than I did with the True Grit remake.
And that's from the heart.

The Horde
The Horde
I need to buy this badass French zombie movie.
Lots of action and gore.
Gangsters and zombies are a great combination.
Some good favorite moments like
the female cop beating the crap out of this zombie girl.
Another scene is where this guy bangs his zombie friend's
head really hard against concrete multiple times.
And my personal favorite,
the guy standing up surrounded by hundreds of zombies.
He fights to the death and kills a whole bunch of zombies.
I like that they focused on fighting more than shooting.
I like the characters like the crazy old veteran who
gets crazier after sniffing some coke.
Great time with this film.
Recommended for any zombie fans out there.

Princess Aurora
Princess Aurora
Put any Korean film and you're guaranteed
to be at least alright.
This movie was a little better than alright.
I never even heard of this movie until
I saw it yesterday at I Luv Video.
Some crazy kills.
And I love how the story plays out
in this angry woman revenge story from Korea.
We don't know why she's killing these people until
the end.
I mean we have clues and we know it's revenge
because of the rape and murder of her daughter but
what do these characters do to deserve to die?
Everything is revealed.
Good to see and of course to buy
if you're a big fan of Korean cinema like myself.

Trust
NEW RELEASE TUESDAY
Trust
Creepy subject.
The movie itself wasn't disturbing
but there's some very great performances here.
Everyone is believable.
They chose the right guy to play the "internet" boyfriend.
I like the style of the movie where
we see and read the chat and text conversation on the screen
while the characters are doing their thing in moving
the story along.
So the pacing was good.
There's some minor flaws like Clive Owen's character
stealing the file from the FBI.
He should of got in trouble for that.
But I liked the story.
It's not a father revenge story.
It's a story about trust not only within cyberspace but
within the family.
I like how they ended.
Spoilers:
"Charlie" never gets caught and gets away.
So the ending has a home video footage
by his family showing "Charlie"
as a very normal happy person around his wife and kids.
And the movie ends there.
So real.
It's not a movie I would personally buy but
definitely a good movie to watch.
For more about this story, check out the imdb page

Captain America (2011)
Captain America
Pretty cool summer flick.
I was going to wait to see on this DVD.
Especially when I first heard that Chris Evans
is going to be Captain America.
But as the theatrical release got closer I decided
to give it a shot. I set my expectations a little high
because this is a Marvel movie.
In the end, I came out satisfied.
The movie was good but not great to me.
Surprisingly, Chris Evans did good.
Some good scenes, my favorite being, the helicopter
scene where this dude gets blended into pieces.
I love WW2 movies.
I'm not too familiar with the comic, but,
I love that this was based during those times.
I would of wanted to see Hitler.
I was wanting a little more action.
This movie entertained me but it was nothing special
that would make me excited for days or months.

Alligator / Piranha
FRIDAY AT THE GRINDHOUSE
Alligator
Wow, awesome cheesy alligator film starring
Robert Foster.
Right away it starts with the most obvious set up:
A man takes a baby alligator and flushes down the toilet.
12 years later, we got a human eating machine.
It gets crazy once this giant alligator gets out of the sewer.
Lots of blood.
My favorite scene is the alligator crashing a wedding.
Lots of people gets it.
The housekeeper, groomsmen, hell even the limousine driver.
I had lots of fun with it.
Had similar music like "Jaws."
Gotta get this for the Grindhouse section.
Good way to start the night.
I also must mentioned that I was drinking Landshark Lager
with this. And as a coincidence, the beer is made in Missouri.
This movie takes place in Missouri.

Piranha
I been waiting to see this flick ever since last year
when I saw Piranha 3-D.
A few months ago I had the opportunity to buy it
and I took it. But it was waiting for me to watch it.
I said to myself, I will watch it in the middle of the summer.
Here we are.
Another great cheesy flick.
This one cracked me up right near the beginning.
The dialogue was fantastic.
Our main guy and girl here discover this lab
and see these creatures (not the piranhas
but these other experimental creatures).
These creatures were hideous.
The guy says, "Lets get out of here, this place gives
me the creeps."
I was laughing so hard.
Could of been the beer.
I kept wanting to see the piranhas really good
but they're so damn fast that I could only see
little bit of them.
But I like the noise that they make.
Campy movie went really great with the previous movie,
Alligator.
Right here we have lots of kids and adults tubing.
They get no mercy.
This is grindhouse entertainment.

Gonin
YAKUZA NIGHT THURSDAY
Every third Thursday of every month of this year,
I'll be watching a yakuza flick.
Love the yakuza genre but haven't really seen a whole lot.
There's a lot of classics out there.
This will help me explore these Japanese movies.
I'll be watching a few from directors,
Kinji Fukasaku, and Takashi Miike, as well other
yakuza flicks from the 60's and to the present.
Gonin
I never heard this movie before until tonight.
I was at I Luv Video searching through the Japanese section
when I found this.
It has Beat Takeshi in it, so how bad could it be?
Not bad. In fact it kind of kicked ass.
It starts getting really crazy when these four people
teamed up to rob the yakuzas.
All the crazy violence happens from there and on.
Some great shootouts.
The ending was a little weak.
But overall I say, "hell yeah."
Good yakuza flick from the 1990's.
Beat Takeshi don't come out until halfway through the film
but he steals the show from there.
Last year during Fantastic Fest I saw a pretty good yakuza flick of
his called, Outrage.
I wonder when that one is coming out on DVD?
This is one is worth to buy, especially if it's on sale.
There's a part two to this but don't know much about it.

Dear Mr. Gacy
Dear Mr. Gacy
Saw this movie yesterday while I was at Fort Hood
killing time inside the live truck.
Cool to see William Forsythe in this crazy role.
The main character here (the student) kinda pissed
me off throughtout the first half.
But little by little, it got more interesting.
Based on a true story.
I like how it ended with the picture of the real guy
posing with Wayne Gacy when he visited him.
In a way this was sad but psychotic.
This serial killer was a sick s.o.b.
I knew some of his history but didn't know some of the details
found in here such as that all his victims were male
and stuff. Good to rent.
Another note: this is my last official Blockbuster rental.
From now on, it's pure I Luv Video, Vulcan, and Redbox.

Limitless (2011)
NEW RELEASE TUESDAY
Limitless
Ah, it was okay.
I expected a lot better.
Some good scenes like using the girl and her ice skates
as a weapon instead of a bat.
What I didn't like was the cliches of being on drugs
such as the colors changing and everything getting trippy.
That gets annoying.
I also didn't like the cheesy music on here.
Some okay action stuff towards the end but
honestly, this could of been a lot better.
A rental at best.

Exit Through The Gift Shop
Exit Through the Gift Shop
Badass documentary!!
I been wanting to see this for a while
just wasn't meant to be until today.
I like the style and all the arts featured on here.
We got Spaced Invaders art, painted elephants, OBEY Andre the Giant posters,
and Guatanamo Bay prisoners in Disneyland.
Just to name a few.
Yeah, it got a little boring in the second half
but I still have respect for it.
Now I gotta go write on some walls myself.
Check it out. And if I see this on sale one day,
I wouldn't mind adding this to the Documentary Section.

The Lincoln Lawyer (2011)
The Lincoln Lawyer
This movie was alright.
I can't picture Matthew McConaughey in this role.
Yes, he played in A Time To Kill.
But this role is different.
This movie was entertaining.
It kept me going for the whole thing.
I was just waiting to see what the payoff would be.
After everything, the ending was okay.
This should of had more intense scenes.
But I think there was only one or two.
This is alright to see if you like courtroom thriller and drama.
Other than that, no other reason to see it.

Karaoke Terror
Karaoke Terror
Crazy Japanese movie.
That was expected.
Would of wanted to see more karaoke musical stuff.
But there wasn't enough.
Some scenes were freaking cool.
But most scenes didn't do it for me.
We got some alright gore.
I would of wanted this story to get really interesting and
weird but it was okay to see once.
I probably wouldn't buy it for the Asian Section.

Zombies of Mass Destruction
ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction
Okay, this was dumb.
I knew it was going to be dumb
but sometimes dumb movies are fun.
This was not one of those movies.
The first zombie kill didn't happen until 30 minutes
into the film. I didn't really care much for the
characters. They tried to hard.
So what else can I say about this movie?
They were pushing too many political stuff in here
and stereotypes that I lost interest quickly.
And now a dumb zombie movie to see but still
fun and pays off is "Zombie Anonymous."

The Bridge On The River Kwai
SHAME ON ME WEDNESDAY
[The second Wednesday of every month
I'll see a movie that I am ashamed
to admit I've never seen before.
A movie that most have seen
and it's usually referenced in pop culture.
As a fan of cinema, I shouldn't have missed
these movies, but I did, so shame on me.
This will give me the chance to catch up on those
movies.]
The month of July is the month for War movies.
The following five War movies I've never seen before:
The Great Escape
Das Boot
The Bridge On The River Kwai
Thin Red Line
M.A.S.H
All members from the panel chose
The Bridge On The River Kwai.
Runner Up: Das Boot
The Bridge On The River Kwai
Classic!!
It's a war movie but it's not all in your face war movie.
These captured soldiers are ordered to build a bridge
for the enemy and this is that story.
Felt a bit ashamed for not having seen it.
It's got great music.
Great scenes and a great ending.
It's a little long but it's an epic movie.
If it weren't for Shame on Me, I honestly would of
probably seen this movie in five years or so.
But, I got it over with.

Insidious
NEW RELEASE TUESDAY
Insidious
Creepy flick.
I like all the crazy imagery and people
in that other world.
Seriously, that demon making stuff listening
to music and that statue boy looking thing
dancing in the room with crazy music
are unforgettable moments.
This is not a horror masterpiece
but this would please horror fans.
I liked the ending but at the same time
I didn't understand it completely so I need to think
on that for a bit.

Winnebago Man
Winnebago Man
"I don't any more bullsh#%t from anyone, and that includes me."
That quote is now one of my favorite quotes
thanks to this documentary.
I enjoyed it a lot, especially the first half.
I didn't know the actual footage was popular.
But man this documentary is well put together
and interesting.
Check it out. This is a must buy for the documentary section.

How Do You Know
LINDA'S SATURDAY MOVIE PICK
How Do You Know
Kind of sweet story but predictable.
As a whole, this was alright.
I'll admit it, I'm a fan of both Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson.
They both do pretty good here.
I like what they were trying to do with this movie
but I felt like they were overdoing it a little.
This movie would be good to watch with a case of Guinness beers,
but, only to watch once and that's it.

Horrible Bosses (2011)
Horrible Bosses
Funny but not as funny as I thought it was going to be.
I mean there was some hilarious scenes.
My favorite was the cocaine scene.
Other than that, the rest was pretty solid.
I was expecting another Office Space here.
I was expecting some crazy funny moments.
But, it did okay.
I do like the characters and the actors
tha played them.
Good chemistry.
Three comedies that worked out for more this year so far
are: Paul, Bridesmaids, and surprisingly, Hall Pass.

Black Sheep
Black Sheep
Awesome movie in my book.
A movie this type, you can't take seriously.
I mean we're talking about a movie
with killer sheep.
Like a zombie movie with sheep.
I like some of the dark comedy on here,
especially in the first half.
The second half made it a little more horror.
If you're a vegetarian, stay away from this movie
or else you might turn to a sheep and eat a live rabbit.
The gore is pretty damn good as well.
I say the trailer is better than the movie as a whole
but it's still something you must check out anyways.

Fireball
Fireball
This movie from Thailand played at Fantastic Fest a few years
ago and it was the main reason for watching it.
The movie sucked big time for me.
Amateur acting.
Stupid fight scenes.
I couldn't get into it.
I was lost and bored the whole time.
So I'm keeping these comments shorter than
usual, don't watch this film.
usual, don't watch this film.

Cabaret
MUSICAL MONDAY
[To expand my knowledge in this genre
and for the sake of trying something different,
every first Monday of every month this year,
I'll be checking out a musical I've never seen before.]
I know I'm writing this and few others things late.
But, it was a busy but fun Fourth of July weekend.
I saw this Musical yesterday morning.
Cabaret
Never in a million years I thought I would
ever see this musical.
I gave it a chance at the last minute
due to some recommendations.
Wow!!
Great musical.
Yeah, there's more drama than the actual
musical stuff, but when we get to the
musical sequences, it's all worth it.
Love the concept.
This takes place during a crazy time in the world.
Nazis taking over and all kind of world.
But deep beneath this crazy war lies
a place where our troubles are forgotten.
My favorite character is the Master of Ceremonies.
He's here in this picture with the main actress:
Believe it or not, I would someday buy this for
the Musical section.

The Experiment
The Experiment
So, I saw the remake last year
with Adrian Brody.
I liked the remake so I needed to see the original
German movie.
This was alright.
Things are different in the remake but this one is alright.
The only thing I didn't like about this film was
the love subplot of the guy and the girl.
Didn't belong in the movie.
I like that this is a slow build up for that
crazy climatic scene.
I like the music they used for this film.
For certain crazy moments in the end of the film,
I might get this if I ever see it on sale.

Hollywood Boulevard
Hollywood Boulevard
Nice grindhouse film.
I would so buy this for the Grindhouse section.
We have a crew making a low budget movie
and it was hilarious.
Right from the bat you can tell the tone for the film.
These stunt men fall from an airplane
and their parachutes fail and die when they hit the ground.
The whole Earth shakes.
That's the tone for a cheesy movie.
We got wet t-shirt girls, we got slashers,
chicks with guns, and we got amateur acting.
Nothing but good Friday night fun.
I couldn't find a trailer to this but here's a long scene
just for kicks.
